Kristofer Ryan spent the past twelve years incarcerated in a maximum-security prison in Texas, serving a life sentence. He tells Reverend Lakshmi Barsel, director of the Service in Satchidananda Prison Program (and one of Kristofer’s mentors for the past six years), how he was led to Yoga, which he credits with transforming his life and inspiring him to write Power Yoga for Prisoners and Others Desiring Change—the first book on Yoga written by a prisoner.
Kristofer Ryan is working on his bachelors degree and maintains a daily practice of asana, pranayama and meditation. For the past five years, he has offered Karma Yoga to Satchidananda Ashram-Yogaville as a proofreader and, in doing so has provided an invaluable service to Integral Yoga Publications, among other departments. His first book, Power Yoga for Prisoners and Others Desiring Change is available on www.shakticom.org or Amazon.com.
A copy of this book is donated for each ebook sold via the Prison Project at the Yogaville Ashram in Virginia through Lakshmi Barsel. Currently, the Prison Project gives eight copies of the book to prisoners per month.
